Things are Booming

Ok, it's been too long since I've posted a new message. But I have an excuse. I've up to my eyeballs with teaching, AND I have a new editing client who's giving me a lot of work.

I'm looking for teachers to help me with the tutoring -- one elementary and one high school math. I've talked with a couple of people, but nothing solid so far. I've also talked with a college senior who might be able to help me with English and language arts, especially essay writing. So now I'll need to update my web site with an announcement about the expanded services. Yippee!!

And I'm enjoying the book I'm editing; it's such a pleasure to work with a good writer. And this is good writing.

I did my first presentation to a writers group Friday night. Even though there were only four people there, it seemed to go well. I'd like to do the same presentation again.

So...I've been a slug this week -- no running. But I've accomplished a lot.

More soon.

A New Year, A New Beginning

I know that title's trite, but it's exactly how I feel.

What happened to December? So far in this new year, I'm doing all right. I ran 10 miles last Sunday, and ran for 36 minutes on Tuesday. I'm planning to add a minute each run until I'm holding at 40 minutes -- an easy goal. And I did weights and stretches last night.

On the tutoring front, things are busy. I'm trying to find help, because I'm only about 2 hours away from having my schedule entirely filled. I've received two inquiries today from my web site: bettiewailes.com. I've gotten a couple of calls from the sign in my yard, and another few referrals. So...life is good. The only bad thing to report is that no one has come to my planned SAT classes. Not to worry, though, because this frees up more time for one-on-ones, which is where my demand is right now.

I have two other major goals. The first has an end point: clean out closets, drawers, cabinets and get the entire house clean and in good order.

The second is ongoing: Get into the habit of working on my writing or editing on a regular basis. Maybe I'll get an editing client soon. I'd be forced to spend time editing and, voila, habit established.

I continue to vacillate between thinking that I have a modest talent for writing and editing, and thinking that I have no marketable ability at all.

I haven't heard from the two query letters I sent in November. I'm not sure if that's good news or bad. I still intend to send a query to the other agent that was recommeded to me at the Writer's Conference -- Erin Reel. I still need to finish a synopsis for that.

Well, enough of my random thoughts for tonight. I feel a game of Solitaire coming on. And getting my bills paid.
